Abstract

We intend to analyze interventionist speeches and actions that result from complex interactions between the military corporation and the dominant civilian groups during the Primeira República of Brazil. The cutout comprises the context of production and circulation of the ideas of “soldier-citizen” and “moderate intervention”. We propose a hypothesis according to the concept of military intervention, as a result of historical experiences in Brazil, recalling at the same time the memory of past events and present interpretations. As a “past- present” is one, within the scope of interpretation and language, events which can be concretely different, but which share semantics consolidated in the common sense and in political culture
